What Are My Legal Rights in This Situation?

So, I was hanging out at lunch in school today and decided to go and hang down a street near my school. I was with a quiet crowd and we were talking. Nearby us an old lady was pulling weeds in her flowerbed. Upon seeing us the lady told us we had no right to be down the street and to leave immediatly or she would call the school. I told her it was a public taxpayer street and i had every right to be down there. She harshly warned me to return to the school or she would phone them. Please help me here by telling me my legal rights here, links to these if possible, and something smart and intelligent she hasnt thought i could say ;), Thanks,
